Salina Woman Charged With Second-degree Murder in Stabbing Attack

A 46-year-old Salina woman was recently apprehended in the stabbing death of a 45-year-old woman where a bystander was also attacked. The suspect was charged with second-degree murder and aggravated battery after police found her vehicle at Kansas Star Casino. She is currently in custody at Saline County jail.

Topeka City Councilman Resigns Amid Child Abuse Allegations

A Topeka city councilman recently resigned from office in accordance with an agreement with prosecutors to resolve child abuse allegations against him and his wife. Jonathan Schumm and his wife Allison were charged in November of last year by the Shawnee County District Attorney for abusing one of their 16 children.

Federal Judge Sentences Labette County Bank Clerk to Probation in Embezzlement Case

A former Labette County bank clerk who pled guilty to embezzling money from various accounts while working as a Chetopa State Bank teller was recently sentenced to probation by a federal judge in Wichita overseeing the case. The defendant’s sentence includes restitution for all funds taken, three months of probation, and eight months of house arrest.

Of course, we all enjoy a good comedy movie. It’s funny to watch on the big screen an exaggerated story about someone else’s misfortune. This is true for the 2013 movie Identity Theft starring Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy. McCarthy and Bateman share the name “Sandy Patterson.”The real Sandy Patterson’s identity has been stolen by a woman in Florida living it up in his name. His job is on the line so he decided to track her down and prove that his credit issues are not his doing. What he finds is an overweight, middle-aged, woman who tries to run for it every chance she gets. On top of that she is being chased by bounty hunters. Unlike real life, they bond in the process and become friends.
